To activate the animated camera tool, hit F8.
Just as control points or switch tool, you can select between the frame time line or the slider time line.
If you click preview with camera tool selected, it will show the animation throught the selected camera.
If you have no background, you can select "View->Draw Reference Points" to see the camera movement.
